Ryde to Madison, Indiana September 23, 2017

Note: Madison has a FREE event on Sept. 23. There will be 30+ vintage hydroplane boats racing on the Ohio River. Due to the crowds, we will have lunch in Vevay, Indiana followed by a 20 mile ryde to Madison.

10:00 am— Departure near Columbus, IN. (BP Gas Station parking lot on SE corner of Route 31 and Route 7)

This is our route:

Route 7 to North Vernon

Route 50 to Versailles   (short rest break)

Route 129 to Vevay for lunch.

We will have a picnic lunch at the Vevay City Park on the Ohio River.

(You can pack your lunch or get lunch to go from Subway.)

After lunch we will take Route 56 (Scenic Ohio River Byway) approx. 20 miles to Madison.

Once we reach Madison, you will have about two hours to watch the boats, to shop, visit the winery etc.

If you want to return with the group, we will have a designated time to group up. We will meet at the parking lot on the NW corner of Route 7 and West Third St. in Madison.

When we scouted this Ryde, there was a detour off of Route 7. We will check to see if the detour is still in place the Friday before the Ryde. From Madison we will take Route 7 back to the BP Gas Station where we started our Ryde.

2nd Sunday Chapter Ryde

What could possibly make the CIBC's Second Sunday afternoon Spyder Ryde any better? How about, oh I don't know, say “ICE CREAM”!

We will cruise down to beautiful Columbus, IN for a visit to the unique ice cream parlor called Zaharakos.

ThrillList.com selected Zaharakos as The Best Ice Cream Shop in the state of Indiana.

Three Greek brothers opened Zaharakos at the turn of the century. The 19th century. Yes, Zaharakos has been giving Columbus its sweets fix nearly continuously for 117 years. Sadly, there was a brief closure in the 2000s when the last remaining descendant (running the establishment) passed away, but a local businessman took over and preserved one of the most singular experiences for any American who cares about ice cream, history, or (hopefully) both. The homemade sodas and sundaes taste like a simpler time, though some of that could come from the fact that it feels like you’re eating in an ice cream museum, with much of the shop’s original fixtures in decor still intact. Oh, and if you want to go to an ACTUAL ice cream museum, they now operate one on the second floor with stuff like soda fountains that predate the civil war. -- ML

We will meet at Phillips 66 at 5871 Liberty Pkwy, Clayton IN 46118 Sunday September 10, 2017 @ 1:00PM. We will travel south to Columbus, IN via preselected route then return by either 31 N or I-65 N to Indy…Mmm Ice Cream!!
